Linux Specific Links
(Mesa, an open source clone of OpenGL, is the main OpenGL implementation for Linux.)
(glx is the OS support library for OpenGL on X Windows.)
(Contributed by SGI.)
OpenGL Linux Application Binary Interface
(This is the current site, as of February 2000, for the Linux OpenGL application binary interface standard, which aims to standardise free and commercial OpenGL implementations on Linux.)
Loki Games' Linux OpenGL Drivers Page
(Notes on available Mesa based implementations for Linux, to include information on installation and upgrading.)
(Notes on available OpenGL and Mesa accelerated implementations under Linux.)
(XIG is a commercial X server for Linux, with a different driver set to the freely available Mesa one.)
(Precision Insight work on open and closed source OpenGL drivers for Linux based on Mesa, which is under an XFree86 license as of Mesa 3.1, making this sort of approach possible. They are also responsible for the DRI - Direct Rendering Infrastructure - enhancements to XFree86 which allow drivers to be written for X which can achieve the performance expected for games.)
SourceForge project for Unreal's Linux modules
(This includes the XDrv, XMesaGLDrv, GlideDrv, XLaunch and Audio modules, under the Artistic License.)
(Includes source code.)
3dfx's FAQ on open sourcing Glide
(This describes 3dfx's decision to open source Glide and concentrate their own driver development on OpenGL and D3D (OpenGL / Mesa only for Linux). The actual source code can be downloaded from the 3dfx Linux support site, and there is a SourceForge project for those wanting to work on it.)
(Loki host a number of open source projects designed to make games development for Linux easier, including an installer, an FMV player and SDL, a set of "game libraries" which support input, sound, 2d rendering etc. My feeble excuse for this link is that OpenGL is the only 3d API currently actively supported on Linux.)
